The DfE has assembled a set of standards intended for all schools and colleges. These standards aim to guarantee that schools and colleges are equipped with appropriate digital infrastructure and technology.

Digital Functional Skills joins our Essential Digital Skills qualifications as a part of the Department of Education (DfE) for developing digital skills.

Digital Functional Skills Qualifications with TLM are available at Entry Level 3 and Level 1 and are ready for teaching immediately. These qualifications, funded by the government in England, are accessible to individuals lacking the digital skills required for present-day society, including the professional environment.

The Department for Education (DfE) is committed to helping people gain the necessary digital skills for life and work at Entry and level 1.

These standards will form part of the New Digital Functional Skills (DFS) that will be available for first teaching in August 2023.

Digital Functional Skills Qualifications (DFSQ) will enable students to initiate and participate in digital and online activities safely in the workplace and other real-life contexts. At this level, DFSQs should:

• enable students to gain confidence and fluency in their use of digital knowledge and skills, and develop a positive attitude towards the use of digital skills;
• enable students to develop an appreciation of the importance of digital skills in the workplace and in life generally;
• enable students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills by applying these to complete tasks and activities; and
• provide a basis for further study, work and life

TLM is hosting a malpractice and maladministration webinar for centres with TLM centre status.

The most popular package is the Office package. Office units are accompanied by two mandatory units; Improving Productivity Using IT (Unit 1) and IT Security for Users (Unit 4). These are to be completed alongside the practical Office units.

The office-based units* are as followed;

*Not all of these units need to be completed to be awarded the TLM Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills in Open Systems and Enterprise (ITQ)

Level 1 vs Level 2

Learners need complete practical evidence for both Level 1 and Level 2 but for Level 2 we require more detail. These learners need to fulfil certain “describe” elements within the units as well as the practical documents.
